Berendse Translations offers translations from English into Dutch and from Dutch into American and British English. I translate all kinds of texts – from website texts and apps to product descriptions and from business communication and press releases/brochures to General Terms and Conditions. My specialisations are marketing, tourism, arts, literature, film, travel and entertainment, but I also translate more general texts (such as the above-mentioned product descriptions and business communication) and general legal texts (such as General Terms and Conditions).
Like most professional translators, I work with a so-called CAT tool. CAT stands for Computer-Assisted Translation (and should not be confused with Machine Translation such as Google Translate!). The biggest advantage of working with a CAT tool is the Translation Memory (TM): a database in which all translations in the language combination in question are stored. This means that consistency within texts can be guaranteed, because the translation memory automatically fills in exact repetitions or so-called ‘fuzzy matches’ (partial repetitions, for example if 60% of a sentence is the same as a previously translated sentence).
For you as a client, this means that I will almost always charge you for fewer words than your Word document indicates, because I won't charge the full amount again for exact repetitions and sentences that have already been translated. This also means that you don’t have to worry about having to pay full price again if you update your text every once in a while.

Besides translation, Berendse Translations also offers editing work. If you have written your own text in Dutch or English (or if you have translated a text into one of these languages yourself) and you want it to be checked linguistically and/or stylistically, please request a quotation here.
A specific type of editing that Berendse Translations also offers is called 'post-editing'; editing raw output from machine translation. Depending on the goal of your text, I can make sure that your readers will understand what it says (a light version of post-editing in case you don't mind if there are still some small errors in the translation as long as the meaning is conveyed correctly) or I can make sure that the translation is error-free – in other words: increasing the quality level of the translation to that of a native speaker, thereby ensuring that the reader doesn't notice the translation was originally generated by machine translation.
